BBOSE :: Bihar Board of Open Schooling and Examination

Overview

The establishment of the Bihar Board of Open Schooling and Examination (BBOSE) as an autonomous organization of the Education Department of the Government of Bihar in February 2011 is yet another important step forward in the State’s fast socio-economic growth in recent years.

The BBOSE is a government-registered society under the Societies Act. It is an Open and Distance Learning Institution under the Ministry of Human Resource Development of the Government of India, modeled after the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS).

Its mission is to “Reach the Unreached” in Bihar in terms of education and skill development through open and distance learning, with a specific emphasis on neglected socioeconomic and religious groups. It produces its own material and books and delivers instruction at all levels of the official school system, i.e. from Class I to Class XII, as an Apex Organization in the field of school education.

It also holds Public Examinations, which are followed by the issuance of Certificates for Classes X and XII that are equivalent to those issued by other Formal School Examination Boards such as C.B.S.E./I.C.S.E. and other Secondary Boards around the country. As a result, in the field of Open & Distance Learning at the school level, it is effectively a merger of the State Council of Educational Research and Training and the Bihar School Examination Board. It has also been designated as a State Nodal Agency. BBOSE has numerous defining characteristics that differentiate it from all other official Examination Boards.

Bihar Open Schooling and Examination Board

The Bihar Board of Open Schooling and Examination (BBOSE) is quickly establishing itself as a powerful policy intervention tool for the state government, with the goal of not only assisting in the universalization of school education, but also ensuring access, equity, and quality, as well as mainstreaming marginalized communities and thus “Reaching the Unreached.” It has enormous potential and function in assisting the state in effectively reaping the “Demographic Dividend” by converting Bihar’s unskilled and semi-skilled workforce into skilled and valued human resources via remote learning.

BBOSE has enormous potential for providing Bihar’s young with relevant events and new market-driven skill sets, as well as for enhancing their present skill base. In this respect, BBOSE has already established itself as a State Nodal Agency and is in the process of forming new alliances and partnerships with major companies in many trade and industrial sectors.
