National Institute of Open Schooling is the only platform in India where students take admission who want to complete education in private mode. Through this board, students can complete their education and study further like the rest of the board of education and make their career. The NIOS Board was started by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), which aims to provide education to the children and youth of rural or backward sections of the society who can learn and study without schools.

The National Institute of Open Schooling operates through 21 regional centers and 6351 study centers in India as well as 4 sub-centers and 31 study centers in UAE, Kuwait, Muscat, Bahrain, Nepal, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. So in a sense this is a global board.
Students can take admission in secondary (class 10), senior secondary (class 12) or vocational courses and basic education through National Institute of Open Schooling. Also, students who have failed in other boards exams in class 10th or 12th, they can pass the class 10th or 12th boards exams anytime by taking admission in NIOS board on-demand exam (ODE).
NIOS board makes the admission process available twice a year for new students as this open board follows the examination scheme twice a year. New students who want to get admission in NIOS board can take admission in block I or block II in stream 1.
NIOS: Tutor Marked Assignment
Tutor Marked Assignments (TMA) are assignments of National Institute of Open Schooling offered by the enrolled course at class 10 or class 12 level. Under which, for each subject selected by the students, there will be three assignments, each assignment will be based on 6 questions. It is mandatory for the students to complete all the assignments at the recognized institute (AI) for evaluation and submit them to the teachers / tutor / coordinators.

What is NIOS?
The National Institute of Open Schooling or NIOS is an educational organization that imparts education through Open and Distance Learning and also on national boards such as the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). And the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination or CISCE conducts examinations up to the pre-degree level at the equivalent level of the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination or CISCE and also provides certificates.
What is Open and Distance Learning or ODL education system?
Open and Distance Learning (ODL) is an innovative concept of providing educational opportunities in a convenient manner based on self-study material (SLM) and the pace of learners. In this medium, in addition to SLM (Self Learning Material), educational assistance in the form of PCP (Tutor Marked Assessment) is also provided to the learner.
What is the difference between open schooling education and regular schooling education system?

How can I study through NIOS?
Students can basically complete education from this board from class 1 to class 8, and along with this, you can complete your education from class 10, class 12 or vocational courses.
For education up to secondary and senior secondary level, NIOS provides facility for students to get their course of choice, speed of learning, and transfer their marks from CBSE (Transfer of Credit or TOC) and other national / state school education facilities.
How is NIOS different from other boards of education?
National Institute of Open Schooling is available to the students as an open board for secondary, senior secondary and voluntary education while other boards like CBSE, ICSE and State Board follow a school system.
NIOS offers the option of formal education by providing distance education programs in class 10th and 12th.
