The Thiruvalluvar University was set up in October 2002 under the
Thiruvalluvar University Act, 2002 (Government of Tamil Nadu Act 32/2002) as an
affiliating University. It is an individual from the Association of Indian Universities (A.I.U.).
The University is situated in a rambling grounds of about 112.68 sections of land, at Serkadu
close to Vallimalai about 16kms away from Vellore City on the Ranipet – Chithoor
Trunk Road. It additionally has a city grounds at Vellore FortThe Thiruvalluvar University has seven divisions, viz., Tamil, English, Economics, Zoology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Bio-Technology. 98 Arts and Science Colleges are associated to this University, of which 10 are Government Arts and Science Colleges, 9 are supported Arts and Science Colleges, 3 are Oriental title schools, 72 are Self financing Arts and Science Colleges and the leftover 4 are University Constituent Colleges. A P.G. Augmentation Center of this University is working at Villupuram.
