The English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad, was established in 1958 as the Central Institute of English (CIE). Offering shape to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s (India’s first Prime Minister) vision to set up an organization to give quality preparing in English for educators, the order of the University is to progress and spread instructional, examination and augmentation offices in the instructing of English and unknown dialects and written works in India” just as “to take proper measures for interdisciplinary investigations and exploration in artistic and social examinations, and to create basic intercultural comprehension of developments.” In 2006-2007, CIEFL was given focal college status by an Act of Parliament and in like manner renamed The English and Foreign Languages University.
