West Bengal State University, Barasat, North 24 Parganas was set up by the Government of West Bengal through an (Act XXVIII of 2007) passed by the Legislative Assembly. The making of the University considered a long-standing public interest for setting up a University in this region. The University began working from the scholarly meeting 2008-09. Further, the State Government, however a warning (No. 300-Edn(U)/1U-38/08 dated the 26th May, 2008) moved 57 schools previously subsidiary to the University of Calcutta, to the recently settled University.
