Bharathiar University was set up at Coimbatore by the Government of Tamilnadu in February, 1982 under the arrangement of the Bharathiar University Act, 1981 (Act 1 of 1982). The Postgraduate Center of the University of Madras, which was working in Coimbatore before 1982 shaped the center of the Bharathiar University.
In May 1985 the University got the acknowledgment from University Grants Commission (UGC) New Delhi with the end goal of awards.
This university, named after the extraordinary public writer Subramania Bharathi is cherished with the saying Instruct to Elevate”.
