In the mid 1920s, to serve the oppressed and to advance Tamil Literature, Rajah Sir S. R. M. Annamalai Chettiar established Sri Minakshi College, Sri Minakshi Tamil College and Sri Minakshi Sanskrit College in a provincial arrangement at Chidambaram. In 1928, Rajah Sir S. R. M. Annamalai Chettiar concurred with the nearby Government to handover the above said foundation for setting up a University. In this manner, on 01.01.1929 Annamalai University was set up according to Annamalai University Act 1928 (Tamil Nadu Act 1 of 1929).
Annamalai University, certify with ‘A’ Grade by NAAC in 2014, is one of India’s biggest public private colleges with 10 Faculties and 49 branches of study. Rambling more than 950 Acres of land, the University does yeoman administration in taking training to the doorsteps of the individuals who are generally a long way from admittance to focuses of higher learning.
