Andhra University, School of Distance Education, Visakhapatnam is the premier in distance education colleges in Andhra Pradesh. Previous President of India Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was one of its Vice-Chancellors who succeed Dr. C. R. Reddy in 1931.
The University College of Arts was introduced on 1 st July 1931. The debut courses were Telugu language and writing, History, Economics, and Politics. After a year, the College of Science and Technology appeared with Honors courses in Physics and Chemistry. The University spearheaded the presentation of numerous new courses in Science, Arts, Management, and Engineering in the nation.
As a continuation of this, Andhra University, School of Distance Education, Visakhapatnam has consistently oppressed itself for nonstop self-assessment for keeping up guidelines and to arrive at set targets. Further, to guarantee quality in Higher Education the University has experienced the cycle of appraisal and accreditation by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in April 2002.
The Peer Committee has broke down the qualities and shortcomings of the foundation and has surveyed the University with ‘A’ grade granting it with the best rate among the State Universities of Andhra Pradesh.
Andhra University, School of Distance Education, Visakhapatnam planned and actualized Quality Management System effectively and turned into the main general University in the nation to get ISO 9001: 2000 Certification in 2006.
The University Presently is Offering 313 Courses in Arts, Commerce, Management, Science and Technology, Engineering, Law, Pharmacy and Education. The University has five constituent schools and four AU Campuses.
The Colleges of Arts and Commerce is the greatest constituent school in the University with 26 Departments offering 42 courses including four Diploma Courses.
The College of Science and Technology has 21 Departments, which offers 63 Courses including one PG Diploma. The College of Engineering has 15 Departments offering Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Research Programs.
The College of Law has been recognized as a serious Center in Law by UGC. The school of Pharmaceutical Sciences is first of its sort in Quite a while, which is offering one UG Program and six PG Programs, other than Research Programs prompting Ph.D. Degree.
The Andhra University, School of Distance Education, grounds at Kakinada (East Godavari District) has five Departments and the AU Campus at Etcherla (Srikakulam Dist) has Eleven Departments.
The AU Campus at Tadepalli Gudem has four divisions and AU Campus at Vizianagaram has five Departments.
To caters to the needs of the learners of the School of Distance Education, Gyan Vani, a community Radio Station is located in the School of Distance Education, besides other sections. It can be tuned on 106.4 Mhz under FM.
There are 34 study Centres of Andhra University, School of Distance Education at the present meeting the learner needs. The sale of applications, dissemination of information, face-to-face interaction, the conduct of examinations, etc. constitute the core activities of the Study Centres.
Andhra University, School of Distance Education offers various courses in the streams of Arts, Commerce & Science.
It offers BA, B.Sc., and B.Com. and at the PG level, it offers MA, M.Com, M.Sc., B.Ed, LLM, MBA, Executive MBA, MCA, MHRM, and MJMC courses at the UG level.
It also offers Diploma, PG Diploma, and certification courses as well.
